Akshay Kumar’s emotional quotient could not save Chandni Chowk To China

January 22, 2009 By: Razib Category: Bollywood

In his latest movie, Chandni Chowk To China Akshay Kumar played the character Sidhu, who is a resident of Chandni Chowk. In real life, Akshay Kumar was born and brought up in Chandni Chowk in Delhi. A portion of this movie was shot in Chandni Chowk and it was a great experience for Akshay Kumar. While shooting the movie, he went to a Dhaba in “Parathewali Gali.” In the shop, Akshay Kumar saw that his picture was hanging beside Indira Gandhi. It made Akshay Kumar very emotional and he broke down. Unfortunately, Chandni Chowk To China did not see any big success in the box office.

IBN Live reports:

Chandni Chowk To China had everything going for it to make a big splash at the box-office. With Hollywood giant Warner Brothers’ backing, Akshay Kumar at his career’s best phase pulling off both action plus comedy and a double dose of gorgeous Deepika Padukone – it was a recipe complete with the makings of a hit Bollywood masala flick.

But the film proved everyone wrong. Not only did it fail to register a decent opening, it also disappointed die-hard Akshay fans.

In the end, we can say that Chandni Chawk To China was just another over hyped movie and tragedy of the matter is, in recent times, Bollywood movie makers are so much focused on marketing that they do everything to promote the movie but they do not make good movies. How long this trend would continue god knows.

Bollywood in 2009: What to Expect?

January 02, 2009 By: admin Category: Bollywood

To be honest with you, I do not expect a lot from Bollywood in 2009. 2008 was a disaster as year and I don’t expect that anything significant will happen in this year too. You may call me pessimistic and even the city with me and I will come you for this matter. But however, let me tell you my reason of being so much pessimistic. But frankly, I do not see any change taking place among Bollywood directors and producers and actors and actresses. But I also cannot find any change in the way Bollywood movies are made. But I do not see any new face that can ensure a big hits in the box office. You might talk about that Katrina Kaif but I do not see any big potential in her. All the but the ding actors of Bollywood are getting old and the presence of Shahrukh Khan does not ensure but he its success in the box office anymore.

Another matter, that is, 2009 is going to be a year of cricket. You know that Indian people are crazy for two things only Cricket and Bollywood. For example, tomorrow, Australia vs South Africa 3rd Test and although India is not taking part in this match, you can expect that many people will logon to their television to enjoy the match.
