After eight years of gap from direction, Aditya is back behind the camera with this movie. The movie is based on the love story between a 40 year old man and a 16 year old girl. Aditya Chopa will produce the movie from the script of himself.

Concidering the story of the movie, Aditya was interested to launch a new girl of 16 years of age opposite Shah Rukh Khan. Looking for a tall, fair Punjabi girl with theatric abilities, Aditya Chopra auditioned hundreds of girls from Punjab, but could not find the perfect girl to rope in for the movie. It was then when he thought about Sonam Kapoor and he spoke to Sonam’s father Anil Kapoor regarding signing Sonam for the movie.

Without even reading the film’s script, Shah Rukh Khan agreed to be its leading man. And a search was going on for a suitable actress opposite king Khan.

Reportedly, Aditya Chopra, who has also written the film’s script, wanted a Punjabi girl, someone who is tall, fair and good-looking. Auditions of many girls were carried out but none fitted the bill.
It took a while before Adi reportedly realized that Sonam Kapoor was the girl he was looking for.

Aditya Chopra has asked his friend Karan Johar to give him the schedule of Shah Rukh Khan for the movie Khan, which is being directed by Karan Johar, so that Aditya can star the shooting of Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi in May.

Sonam Kapoor debuted though Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s high profile movie Saawariya in 2007. She was definitely lucky to have debuted under the direction of someone like Sanjay. Searching for the right girl with typical Punjabi look in combination of theatric abilities, Aditya Chopra auditioned hundreds of Punjabi girls, but at last failed to figure out the perfect girl to cast opposite Shah Rukh Khan. As the story goes, the movie revolves around a love between a 40-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl.

Our sources say, “Aditya Chopra was very keen to have a tall, fair Punjabi girl for the role opposite Shah Rukh Khan. He has himself written the script and knows exactly what he wants in his heroine. The film deals with the love story of a 40-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl. Adi was also very finicky about signing the right girl because he was making his comeback to direction after a gap of eight years and wanted to get everything just so.”

Shah Rukh Khan is now 42, while Sonam Kapoor is 22. So, both of them seem to be very suitable in the movie in terms of their age at least. Sonam Kapoor has already shown her acting talent in her debut film Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya. With Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (God Made The Couple), Aditya Chopra is coming back to direction again since his last directorial Mohabbatein was released in 2000. Interestingly, Shah Rukh Khan also played the male lead role of Mohabbatein. The script of Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi is written by Aditya Chopra himself. So, it seems that the movie is going to be one of the biggest hits of 2008.

Sonam’s father Anil Kapoor, himself a talented actor, was receptive to the idea, and several meetings later Sonam was on board.

Production of the film, that will be shot extensively in Greece, Australia and Dubai, will start in June – July for release by the end of 2008.

Sonam Kapoor is currently busy with her shooting schedule for Rakesh Omprakash Mehra’s film Delhi 6 opposite Abhishek Bachchan. Starring against Shah Rukh Khan could be a dream to many. In his absence, it was tried to continue the shooting but later on problems coming out and it became impossible to carry on shooting.

The Bitch’s source informs, “It was very difficult to continue with the shoot, owing to this sudden departure of the first AD. Once, while a very important scene of the film was being canned, there was no one to give Sonam her dialogues. And the shot was finalized without Sonam even saying her lines, can you imagine? Rakesh only realized this later and when Sonam was queried about the same, she simply said that nobody gave them to her.”

So, it seems that Sonam Kapoor’s seemingly bright career is being faded. Reports have it that Sonam has been offered to star Anurag Basu’s next project opposite Hrithik Roshan, but she has turned it down because the role offered to her requires to become very sexy. However, Anurag Basu and producer Rakesh Roshan denied it. Whatever it is, the main thing is that Sonam Kapoor is yet to start getting offers from the big production houses in Bollywood.

There is report out that Saawariya star Sonam Kapoor has turned down a role offered to her opposite superstar Hrithik Roshan in a movie named Kites. Producer Rakesh Roshan has recently denied offering the role to Sonam Kapoor saying that the female lead of the movie required knowing Latin, for which he felt it was unnecessary to offer an Indian actress. Rakesh Roshan would give the movie to Gangster famed Anurag Basu to direct the movie.

Is it true that you had approached Sonam Kapoor for the lead opposite Hrithik Roshan in your forthcoming production Kites?
A: No, it is not true that we approached Sonam for the role. All the rumours that she turned it down are rubbish. I wanted a girl who speaks Spanish, so there was no question of even asking any Indian heroine.
